London is a special place at Christmas. It comes alive with festive celebration, beautiful twinkling lights and wonderful Christmas Markets. Whether you’re doing your Christmas shopping or enjoying a warming mulled wine, London’s Christmas markets are a great experience for the whole family.

At Birchall tea we love tradition, family and great taste and a day at one of London’s many Christmas Markets has them all. With the majority markets now open, we’ve provided you details on some of our favorites you can visit…

Christmas at the South Bank Centre

Head over to Southbank Centre this festive season and see it transformed into a magical landscape with a bustling market, twinkling lights and a host of seasonal events for Winter at Southbank Centre.

The month-long festival offers a packed programme of free and ticketed events for all ages – from world-class theatrical performances and festive concerts, to social dances, community choirs and activities.

This year’s Winter Festival focuses on family, charity and giving, with many events and activities reflecting these three themes.

Tate Modern

Experience a traditional festive atmosphere as you explore the Tate Modern Christmas Market, which returns for a third year in front of the famous art gallery.

The Christmas Market at Tate Modern really does bring back the real Christmas feeling to Tate Modern, Bankside London, transforming the northern landscape of Tate Modern into a Christmassy attraction for the whole family.

Beautiful authentically decorated wooden chalets will sell a wide range of unique hand-crafted gifts and unusual Christmas presents. Many delightful products are offered in a magical winter atmosphere. Sip a warming “Glühwein” (German Mulled Wine), enjoy a famous Bratwurst or indulge yourself with roasted nuts, gingerbread hearts and many other delicious treats. As well as shopping, the carousel within the Christmas Market and traditional Christmas music will enthrall visitors, filling them with the Christmas spirit. Also you can find a Christmas Grotto to meet Santa as well a “Thomas, the steam engine” as a little kiddy ride.

Winter Wonderland Hyde Park

Christmas family fun aplenty with a huge ice rink, two circuses, an observation wheel and the Magical Ice Kingdom, plus themed bars for the grown-ups

Entry to Winter Wonderland is free, and a wander past the fairground rides, around child-friendly Santa Land (including Santa’s grotto) or through the Christmas markets is a real treat for anyone feeling the spirit of the season

This year the Magical Ice Kingdom presents an ‘Arctic Adventure’ complete with icebergs, shipwreck and a polar bear palace. It’s your chance to get up close to some real ice and snow, go fishing with the Inuits and have your photo taken with a giant white beast. Along with the 60-metre observation wheel, rollercoasters and fairground rides will keep thrill seekers happy. A good alternative for those who prefer to stay on solid ground are the selection of themed bars with real fires, except for the Ice Bar (for obvious structural reasons) where even the glasses you drink from are made of ice.

Christmas In Leicester Square Market

Christmas in Leicester Square is a new festival for 2016, which will transform the centre of bustling London into a wonderland including traditional Christmas markets with hand-crafted goods and delicious food and drinks, a Santa’s Grotto where children will be able to meet the man himself, plus the return of Olivier Award-winning theatrical smash-hit sensation, La Soirée, for an 8 week run in this fantastic new location!

Belgravia Christmas Market

Visit Belgravia’s Christmas markets and see the elegant London district transformed into a winter wonderland.

Pimlico Road hosts its Christmas market on 3 December in its cosy village-like surroundings. Alongside the independent design and antique shops, festive stalls offering unique gift ideas will line the street to the sounds of live music and entertainment.

The following day (4 December), Elizabeth Street will welcome a pop-up market selling a wide range of seasonal treats and Christmas gifts, from food to fashion. Instead of his traditional grotto, Santa will this year make an appearance inside a black cab photo booth, where you can meet him and capture the moment on photo.
